<p>The Dolomites are a magnificent, wonderfully diverse rocky area in the heart of the Southern Alps: wooded low mountain ranges, fabulously beautiful larch and meadow areas between the rocky colossi, deep gorges, picturesque valleys, dreamy mountain lakes, magnificent viewpoints and easily accessible peaks.</p> <p>The Rother Hiking Guide Dolomites 7 describes the southern area of the Eastern Dolomites, the mountain region between the Cordevole and Piave valleys, Cortina and Belluno. Also included are the areas of the Southern Carnic Alps made from dolomite rock and the low mountain range of the Venetian Prealps. The core area, however, are the mountains around the Forno di Zoldo basin, one of the greatest touring centers of the Dolomites, indeed of the Alps. Forno is the gateway to the Belluno Dolomites National Park and is flanked by seven UNESCO World Heritage-listed groups - Bosconero, Rite, Pelmo, Civetta, Moiazza, Tamer and Prampèr.</p> <p>The Viennese Dolomites specialist Franz Hauleitner presents a representative selection of 56 tours in his book. Many of them are not difficult and follow marked trails. Others, on the other hand, require more practice, stamina and orientation skills. The lack of support points and the greater differences in altitude between valleys and peaks compared to the Northern Dolomites are evident in longer, more challenging undertakings and in a larger number of multi-day hikes.</p> <p>Tour descriptions, detailed route descriptions, informative altitude profiles and detailed map sections at a scale of 1:50,000 make all tour suggestions easy and safe to follow.
