Description

Jotunheimen – the home of the giants – is one of Norway's most impressive mountain hiking regions. It is aptly named, as all of Norway's peaks over 2,300 m can be found here, with Galdhøppigen (2,469 m), Glittertind (2,452 m) and Store Skagastølstind (2,405 m) even the three highest mountains in Norway.</p
1,140 km² of the central high mountains are protected as a national park with striking mountain ridges, towering peaks, high plateaus and, of course, glaciers. Many of them fill valleys and gorges and are wonderful destinations for walking and skiing. Between peaks and sharp ridges lie deep valleys with rivers, numerous waterfalls and beautiful lakes. The area is criss-crossed by a network of marked hiking trails and huts and is considered the best developed hiking area in Norway.
<p
Jotunheimen is attractive for both novice hikers and experienced climbers and mountaineers. The routes presented in this book - a west-east crossing (6 days), a short and a long circular hike (4 and 7 days) - lead to the most beautiful points in Jotunheimen.
